Symbols and footprints

Make our own library: the symbol and the footprint of every part on the board. The CAT4104 LED driver first, then the LED and the USB-C connector, each with its 3D model.

2.1

The CAT4104 LED driver symbol

KiCadfreeWe create our own symbol library and draw the CAT4104 symbol, with the pins pasted straight from the datasheet.

2.2

The CAT4104 footprint, layers and the 3D model

KiCadfreeWe build the TDFN-8 footprint with the Footprint Wizard, add the thermal pad, meet the PCB layers, attach the 3D model and link the footprint to the symbol.

2.3

LED symbol and footprint

KiCadfreeThe LED: a two-pin symbol drawn with lines, a footprint with pads placed by hand, the courtyard and the 3D model.

2.4

USB-C connector symbol and footprint

KiCadfreeA power-only USB-C connector: six SMD pads, four through-hole pads for strength, the shield pin, the courtyard and the 3D model.
